There some things that I am afraid of in this world.
Here is the short list:
Elevators- (no joke, I hate elevators)
and..... I have a fear of roofs.
I hate being on a roof doesn't matter if its a single story home, 2 story, or a roof of any another building. If its a roof, I really don't like it.
More than anything else I think its due to the fact there is distinct edge on a roof. To me it is similar to the edge of a ginormous cliff, nothing between you and the ground below.
People describe there life as being on "edge". This edge isn't a physical one like the edge of a cliff or roof it is a figurative edge. This edge represents the strain on a person emotionally. Essentially it means that if one more thing comes our way it is going to push us over that "edge" into a state of complete chaos and free fall.
There are times in our lives that we aren't really sure why we are so close to that "edge". At other times it is for obvious reasons: stress from illness, loss of a loved one, loss or change in your work, the list could continue on and on........
If you are on the edge today the best thing you can do is stop, take a deep breath and lean in close to Christ. Read these words from Christ found in, John 16:33-
"I've told you all this so that trusting me, you will be unshakable and assured, deeply at peace. In this godless world you will continue to experience difficulties. But take heart! I've conquered the world."
When we are on the "edge" what we need to feel most is that our lives are unshakable, assured and deeply at peace. The question that comes next would be, "Why don't I feel those things?" If you read the first part of the verse again you will find out. Christ has told us these things that in TRUSTING him you will be unshakable, assured, and deeply at peace.
If you are on that edge today, will you trust Christ? So that your life can be made unshakable, assured, and deeply at peace.
